Hot on Your Heels!

Posted June 03 2012

If you're near Squamish, BC (which is just down the road from Whistler!) this August you definitely want to check this out. The Squamish Off Road Cycling Association is putting on the Hot on Your Heels women’s only enduro style race on August 4th, 2012 followed by cocktails, a buffet dinner and dancing.

Profits from this event will be donated to Go Girls! Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds, a mentoring program that encourages physical activity, healthy eating and the development of a positive self image among young girls, run by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Squamish.

Enduro? What the heck does that mean?

An enduro race typically consists of 3-5 timed stages which take place on technical, generally descending terrain. These stages are linked by predominantly ascending connecting stages. Although a rider’s specific performance on the physically demanding connecting stages does not always affect her result, the connections are often associated with a time-cut off (i.e. a latest permitted arrival at the summit of the next special stage). Due to this eclectic combination of attributes, enduro racing is increasingly recognised as the truest test of the all-round mountain biker.

So how is the Hot On Your Heels going to work?

Riders will be timed from start to finish, as well as 2 stages of descents in between. This means those of you not fond of the uphill can take your time to the top and then when you’re ready, pin it to the bottom. And those of you not so keen on the descents can take your time on the tricky steep parts but pedal your butts off on the climbs. In the end, it’s all about having a fun day out with other fantastic ladies and giving back to young girls in Squamish.
